Happy Birthday today (Dec. 11) to Motley Crue and Sixx:A.M. bassist Nikki Sixx He's 59. Other rockers celebrating include guitarist Stevie Young of AC/DC (61), guitarist Zacky Vengeance of Avenged Sevenfold (36) and singer Dave King (Fastway, Flogging Molly) is 56.

Nikki Sixx founded Motley Crue with drummer Tommy Lee in 1980, and later would be joined by guitarist Mick Mars and singer Vince Neil. The band released their self-recorded debut Too Fast For Love in 1981 on their own label and would re-release the album after signing with Elektra Records. They released their breakthrough album Shout at The Devil in 1983, followed by Theater of Pain in 1985, Girls, Girls, Girls in 1987, and Dr. Feelgood in 1989. Dr. Feelgood would become Motley Crue’s most successful album spending 114 weeks on the charts and selling over 6 million copies in the U.S. The compilation Decade of Decadence was released in 1991. Many other releases would follow with a Farewell tour being announced in January of 2014. The band played their final show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Dec. 31, 2015. I was fortunate to catch Motley Crue on several occasions on the band's farewell tour, and it's ashame that we'll never see the band perform together again.

Nikki Sixx continues to rock and has no signs of stopping since Motley Crue has retired. Sixx has his band Sixx:AM which he formed back in 2007. For more on Sixx:A.M., check out the official band website here.

Cheers to Nikki on his birthday today!
