If you've been in downtown Schenectady in the last few months, chances are you've seen the giant multi-colored building just across the street from the movie theater.

What is it? A new restaurant called Mexican Radio and it's opening the doors today (6/16).

The restaurant will offer up the same menu as their locations in Hudson and New York City, with traditional Mexican favorites such as tortillas, burritos, enchiladas, tacos, and more, including seafood. It will also offer outdoor seating and three bars.

Mexican Radio takes up three buildings in the downtown area. Co-owner Mark Young spoke with CBS 6 about the restoration process:

The first building was the imperial department store which many in Schenectady have fond memories of in the 50's and early 60's. So we preserved that aspect of it, and the third building used to be an old press company, and there was talk at one point in knocking that down but I think if you go back that and see what we've done to it, you'd be glad that we saved the building.

The restaurant brings 85 jobs to downtown and possibly more to come.

Expect opening week to be busy and to wait for a table but here's another great reason to head to downtown Schenectady as they rebuild.
