In a now-resolved situation, a prank call by a student went wrong this week at Cohoes High School, causing a very real scare.  As News Channel 13 reported, a student made a prank call to the school, threatening school violence.  More specifically, News Channel 13 reports he threatened to shoot up the school.  From what I read, the school reacted with immediate preparedness, taking the call seriously and putting the school on a brief lock-down while the call was traced, the student and his cell phone were found, and the situation was resolved.

Why anyone would make a prank call like that, particularly with recent events, is beyond me.  But that's not what I want to focus on.  I want to say kudos to Cohoes High School for taking the call seriously.  Kudos for reacting with preparedness, and kudos for investigating the call.   As a healthcare worker, I've been part of lock-downs before that have turned out to be pranks.  When an organization or workplace is prepared, it can make everyone that much more at ease in a scary situation.  There's so much to be said for having a plan, and for taking threats credibly and investigating, even if it turns out to be a prank.
