We are always reporting on the next big show to hit the Capital Region, but every single weekend we have some great local artists and local venues putting on some really good shows at very affordable prices.  They vary from all kinds of different genres too.  You can find some hard rock and metal, jazz, jam bands.  Whatever you are looking for, you'll be able to find it.

Now if your into the hardcore/metal scene then you'll want to stop by Valentines on New Scotland ave in Albany and see Glenville natives Tradewinds, as they get ready to release their new CD.  This show will also feature some other upstate favorites The Night Life and Our Longest Hours.  The CD release show will kick off at 7:30pm tonight and will take place upstairs.

Not into that scene, than you might be interested to hit up Dinosaur BBQ in Troy for a show by the Jonny Monster Blues Band.  Not only can you grab some great BBQ food, but you can enjoy some fantastic blues music from this New Paltz based band.  You never know what these guys are going to bring to the table.

Saturday is chock full of entertainment starting with an all day music and arts festival at Maple Ski Ridge in Rotterdam.  It's called Rhythm on the Ridge and it's the third annual roots music festival.  It starts at noon and goes until 9pm.  2 stages of musicians, plus food and other vendors, this will be a good time provided the weather holds up.

Over night camping is available on Saturday night, so make it a whole weekend of music and art! Tickets are $15, which isn't bad for an all day festival plus children under 12 are free. Also if you bring a non perishable food item you'll get a $2 discount.

Saturday night is full of entertainment too including one of my favorite local acts, Black Mountain Symphony. These guys are a combination of everything and sure not to disappoint. They will be playing upstairs at Valentines starting at 7:30pm Saturday night.  A very unique band that everyone will love from metal heads to hippies.

The jazz scene is always alive at Justin's on Lark.   Check out local Jazz artist Teresa Broadwell this Saturday night at Justin's.  She brings a very classic jazz sound that even the newest of jazz fans will love.  She'll kick off her performance at 9:30pm and for only $5 you can enjoy some great jazz music.

Hope to see you out exploring some of the great local acts around the Albany Area this weekend, and if you want a taste of what some of the local bands have to offer you can always head over the Local Music Outlet here on the site and preview some of out local favorites!
