Last week, Ol' Monte had the pleasure of judging a signing competition at Columbia High School.  The kids there have some SERIOUS talent!  I can't carry a tune in a bucket.  Some of these kids blew me away with their signing ability.  One of the girls went out of the box rocking a New Radicals tune, a unique choice for a girl who was born just two years before the song hit the airwaves. As it turns out, the girl is a drummer for a local band you may have seen play around Albany!

After rocking out to You Get What You Give by the New Radicals, I found out that 15 year old Madeylyn is the drummer for Emeralds of July, a band made up of five local high school kids - Rachel, the lead singer, bassist Jess, Ashley on keyboards and Lucas, the lead guitarist, all sing the tunes that Madelyn writes.  Recently, the group played Jillians with acts you're probably familiar with such as Ten Year Vamp.

It's great to see young kids put their talent up on on stage.  Who knows, maybe in a few years, we'll be having these kids in the Q studio taking your calls about their debut CD eh?

Check out a video I found on-line, Emeralds of July rocking out Call Me When You're Sober by Evanescence.
