The deadline to file your tax returns normally is April 15th but if you are reading this right now and realizing that you have yet to file your returns and are trying to come up with a way to make some time to do them in the next 48 hours or so I have some good news for you.

This year we all get a couple of extra days to make some time to get them done or file for an extension. This year the deadline to file is Tuesday, April 18th!

According to The Balance the reason behind the extra couple of days is because April 15th falls on a Saturday this year and because Monday, the District of Columbia celebrates Emancipation Day, which is normally April 16, but that's a Sunday so they have Monday, April 17th off. Therefor your taxes are now due on Tuesday, April 18th. This deadline applies for both your New York State tax returns and your Federal returns.

Now if you are just coming to the realization that you totally slacked and don't think you will be able to get an appointment in time without waiting around all weekend at one of those tax places a little pro tip for you ...

If you made $64,000 or under in 2016 you can actually file your taxes yourself for FREE at NY.gov and they have plenty of options to pick from to file. From software that you can download to even some of the more popular sites like H&R BLOCK and TurboTax. Both State and Federal for FREE! All the info you need to find out if you are eligible can be found by clicking HERE.

You're welcome.
