I’m very confused by this story, does this mean that the police in Iceland have been doing something right for so many years or doing things very wrong? Apparently in all the years of the existence of Icelandic police there has never been a time when they have shot and killed a “bad guy” until now.

“Police in Iceland said Monday they shot dead a gunman — the first time armed police have killed someone in the nation.

Iceland, which has a tiny population of around 320,000, has a low crime rate and gun violence is extremely rare. Its regular police force does not carry firearms”. –DM

Well that explains it, the police don’t even carry guns. So I suspect in the past when they needed to take down a criminal they used other means of defenses. My best guess is that Icelandic police officers used to just blast the sounds of Bjӧrk singing acapella through their police car speakers and more often than not the criminal would die from exposure or give themselves up.
