Cult New Wave of British Heavy Metal legends Grim Reaper returned with an inspiring new studio album, Walking in the Shadows, last year, billed as Steve Grimmett's Grim Reaper. Supporting the album on the road around the world, the band maintained their touring routine of the last handful of years, but the South American tour was cut short as Grimmett underwent multiple surgeries to halt a quick-spreading infection that resulted in a leg amputation. With medical costs piling up, a host of metal's best are coming to the singer's aid.

The idea to record Grim Reaper material for Grimmett's benefit was hatched by former Anthrax singer Neil Turbin, Venom Inc.'s Tony Dolan, Onslaught's Sy Keeler and Jimmy Kay of The Metal Voice. They've also roped in additional collaborators: Gary Holt (Exodus, Slayer) Tim 'Ripper' Owens (ex-Judas Priest), Blaze Bayley (ex-Iron Maiden), Doro Pesch, Steve "Lipps" Kudlow (Anvil), Marta Gabriel (Crystal Viper), Jonas Hornqvist (Bleed the Hunger), Ross the Boss (Manowar), Bobby 'Blitz' Ellsworth (Overkill), Mantas (Venom Inc.), Nick Bowcott (ex-Grim Reaper), John Gallagher (Raven) and more which will be announced soon. The material will be produced by Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, Anvil).

Grimmett's wife, Millie, has been steadily provided updates on the Steve Grimmett's Grim Reaper Facebook page, last stating, "He is now stable and doing well. The wound is still open because they are cleaning it out and checking for any infections, every 2-3 days. All being well the last clean should be this Friday and they will stitch it up next week. Unfortunately the 10-day clock starts from that point until Steve can fly home, so it is going to be at least two weeks until we can start the journey back to the U.K.," on Jan. 31.

In total, Grimmett has undergone four surgeries in Ecuador, first starting with a partial leg amputation, removing the limb below the knee. As infection continued to spread, doctors informed Grimmett they'd also need to remove more of his leg due to a blocked artery above the knee in order to promote further healing.

A YouCaring page has been established to collect donations, which can be made here. A benefit show will also be held on April 1 at Riff's Bar.
