Happy Birthday today (Aug. 10) to Ian Anderson. The Jethro Tull frontman is 71.

Ian Anderson is best known for his time as singer, flautist, and acoustic guitarist for the British rock band Jethro Tull. Jethro Tull sold over 60 million records worldwide and Rolling Stone magazine described the band as “one of the most commercially successful and eccentric progressive rock bands”. Jethro Tull achieved commercial success in 1969 with their second release Stand Up which went to number 1 in the U.K. and resulted in regular touring throughout the U.K. and the United States. Their musical style shifted from a folk, blues sound to a more progressive rock sound with the albums AqualungThick as a Brick, and A Passion Play onto a hard rock/folk sound with Songs From the Wood.

Ian Anderson performs as a solo artist these days. He announced that Jethro Tull was finished in 2014 but as of recently appears to be touring under the Jethro Tull name.  Cheers to Ian Anderson on his birthday today!
