The Albany County Sheriff's Stop DWI Program and the law firm of Martin, Harding and Mazzotti are offering free rides on New Year's Eve to anyone who has had too much to drink and needs a ride home.

It's the 27th year the Safe Ride Program has been offered by the Sheriff's department, which will take calls between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. and dispatch one of 20 small buses or transport vans to anyone drinking in within Albany County. The vehicles will only transport people to homes within Albany County.

Martin, Harding and Mazzotti's program stretches across Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Troy and also runs from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The law firm is working with local taxi cab companies that will drive people between cities.

Both safe ride programs will only take passengers to their homes, not other bars or parties.

Anyone who calls either program will receive a free ride, no questions asked.
