A challenge laid out by one CEO rallied his employees and raised millions for cancer research.

In Quincy, Mass the CEO of Granite Telecommunications Rob Hale told his employees for everyone of them that shaves their head or beard, he would donate $1,000 to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The challenge was accepted by over 100 employees at first, leading Hale to raise the donation per shave to $5,000. When it was all said and done, 428 volunteered resulting more than $2 million raised.

Hale has a connection to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The hospital was the home of his father for 18 months while he battled pancreatic cancer. Speaking with WCVB Hale said of the donation: "If we can beat cancer, other families don't have to go through that."

Men and women both took part in the shaving with the women's hair being donated to 'Locks of Love' as well.
