Tired of the seemingly endless period between studio albums for Tool? Well apparently so are they (or are they?), as the band offered up a social media post suggesting that Sammy Hagar has come on board for Maynard James Keenan to speed up the process.

In a new posting, the band suggest that Hagar is a temporary replacement, with Keenan adding, "There seems to be this invisible speed limit we've been holding ourselves to. I believe Sammy can help us get all pistons firing and break some sound barriers." See the full post below.

But before fans start scratching their heads about the move, it should be pointed out that Hagar famously recorded the song "I Can't Drive 55." And yes, the post did go up on April 1 (aka April Fool's Day). Tool have pulled off some solid April Fool's Day pranks over the years and this ranks among the more clever ones.

While Tool are notorious for excessive fine tuning of their music and they've had some legal issues delay the recording as well, the band spent a good part of 2016 working on the disc and in February the group's webmaster revealed that the music had been turned over to Keenan for lyrics and vocals. That's typically one of the final steps in their creative process. So enjoy the levity for now and hold tight for news on their next studio release as details are revealed.
