The Dave Matthews Band are inching closer to a new record, and fans in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio were treated to a new song on Sunday night.

The song, ‘If Only,’ feels like a certain future hit for the band. It’s a mid-tempo number that is really propelled by the beat drummer Carter Beauford lays down throughout the performance. The track will be featured on the band’s still-untitled studio album, which is expected later this year.

The Dave Matthews Band have been forthcoming with music so far from the new release. In addition to ‘If Only,’ the band served up ‘Gaucho‘ as a free download last month. Also, an enterprising (or eavesdropping if you prefer) fan managed to sneak some soundcheck audio online of their songs ‘Sweet’ and ‘Mercy’ earlier this year.

The Ohio show was a solid one for fans of the band, as they were also reportedly treated to an explosive version of the ‘Stand Up’ single ‘Everybody Wake Up (Our Finest Hour Arrives),’ which last was in the set list back in December of 2005.

While the summer tour is just underway, the group should be finalizing details on their next disc. Producer Steve Lillywhite has reunited with the band for their sessions, and the album is expected in September.
