Great ... because I really was looking into picking up another "bad" habit.

Okay, okay, I know that needing a coffee in the morning is like needing air to a lot of people out there but personally, I have never really been a big fan.

I think it's something about the taste mixed with the way it makes your mouth feel (and smell), and that it's generally followed by an urgent need to use the facilities that has me turned off.

So unless it's freezing out, I'm absolutely exhausted and need to function, and said coffee beverage is saturated with excessive amounts of cream and sugar and maybe some sort of flavoring I usually opt out of a cup of joe. But now there's this new study out saying that drinking coffee may actually help protect my liver from all that alcohol I keep filling it with.

Reuters reports that "increasing coffee consumption by two cups a day was associated with a significant reduction in the risk of cirrhosis," and since drinking alcohol has a tendency to cause cirrhosis, a couple cups of coffee a day might just protect and prevent that whole process.

Actually the Gothamist says "The numbers suggest that drinking two cups of coffee per day reduced the risk of developing liver cirrhosis by 44%, with the figure rising to 65% with four cups per day."

So I guess you can stop feeling bad about that 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) cup of coffee today!

I think I'm going to have to make a DD run before I consume all those Margaritas I had planned for tonight.
