After all the kind words that Boston Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein said about manager Terry Francona, they still fire the guy.   Boston has decided to not pick up the option on Francona's contract after the largest collapse in Major League Baseball History.  The bottom line is the Boston Red Sox did not make the playoffs and someone has to be held accountable. The Red Sox were favorites to win the American League East and get back to the World Series but instead fell apart in September after going 7-20.

Nobody blames what happened in September on Tito - We're don't believe in scapegoats.

So that it for Terry Francona.  He worked side by side with Theo Epstein for 8 seasons, becoming the Red Sox' manager just before the 2004 season.  Where does Francona go now?  Speculation is Chicago.  Either the Chicago White Sox where he was a manager in their farm system or maybe the Cubs where there might be a manager opening.
