Bobby Womack has revealed that he's suffering from Alzheimer’s, the NME reports. The 68-year-old soul legend is apparently in the early stages of the disease, but doctors have told him it "will get worse."

"How can I not remember songs I wrote?" Womack said. "It’s frustrating. I don't feel together yet. Negative things come in my mind and it's hard for me to remember sometimes."

The news comes amid a career upswing for Womack, who collaborated with Blur and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn on last year's acclaimed 'The Bravest Man in the Universe,' his first studio album in more than a decade. During a September awards show, Womack referred to Albarn as "Damon Osbourne," a slip of the tongue that might have been the result of his disease.

“The most embarrassing thing is I’ll be ready to announce Damon and can’t remember his last name," Womack said.

This isn't Womack's first major health scare. Last year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer fought a public -- and apparently successful -- battle with colon cancer.
