There is a push to try and get all-terrain vehicles prohibited from the Adirondacks and other areas in the Northeast to help conserve the environment. According to Spectrum News, conservationists say that New York state has to do more to make sure that the impact of ATVs (all-terrain vehicles) don't ruin the environment and, more specifically, the Adirondacks.

In a published report released on Monday, it details the damage caused by ATVs on land and the environment in the Adirondacks and the Catskills. A coalition of conservation groups conducted the study.

There are policies in place that don't allow ATVs in public areas but the coalition doesn't believe these are enough. They say that stronger rules are needed to help protect public lands.

The coalition is now recommending that a ban on private ATVs in preserve lands in the forests of the Adirondacks. They also want a law that prohibits anyone younger than 16 from operating an ATV.
