After 33 years on the CBS news magazine show, the 92 year old former Albany native Andy Rooney has decided to stop appearing on 60 Minutes and retire.

In 1978 Andy Rooney began doing regular segments on 60 Minutes.   He is probably the most regular thing associated with weekly TV in a long time.  He made the announcement yesterday that he would in fact be retiring after his segment this Sunday night.  There are no plans to replace Rooney's segment with anything else.

There’s nobody like Andy and there never will be

-Jeff Fager (CBS News Chairman)

It's funny to think that Rooney grew up right here in the Albany area, where he went the Albany Academy for boys before leaving for Colgate University.  He got his start being a war correspondent in WWII and began working for CBS as a writer in 1949.
