What's a greater gift than doing something good, and getting love in return.  There are so many lovable cats and dogs available in the Capital Region that need a home this holiday season, and why not bring one home!  I always think about animal adoptions around the holidays, as all of my cats are rescues [and named after Rock-and-Rollers of course].  Our baby girl [Joan] Jett happened to be pregnant when we rescued her, and I was able to find all of her kittens great homes- and few of which were actually gifts for young children around the holidays.  So it always warms my heart to see people adopting animals in need around this time of year.  In the Albany region alone, there are MULTIPLE shelters to adopt from (all with unbelievably adorable cats and dogs).  Here are a few:

Homeward Bound Dog Rescue in Schenectady, NY: a not-for-profit volunteer organization that helps dogs in foster care find homes.

Noahs Kingdom Humane Society: a No-Kill cat shelter relying solely on volunteers. Adoption clinics located at the PETsMart in Crossgates Commons: Monday, Tuesday Friday from 6:00 - 7:30 PM, Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 - 3:00 PM.

Mohawk Hudson Humane Society:  from one shelter to a directory of Rescue Groups throughout the region for both cats and dogs, this site has it all.

Peppertree Rescue in Albany, NY: A 501(c)3 nonprofit, specifically for those who love Golden Retrievers and dogs with similar temperaments
