As as we approach 2017, I'll be posting a series of 5 posts about my top 5 live concerts of 2016! I saw a TON of great rock music this year, and it's almost impossible to narrow it down.  However, there were a few phenomenal shows that stick out in my mind.  I won't be giving them all away in one post, so stay tuned this week for all of my Top 5 shows, photos from each concert, and a little bit about what's going on with the bands!!

For my inaugural post for the week, #5 of my Top 5 Live is...(drumroll please)....

Blink 182 / A Day to Remember / All Time Low

I don't know how you can go wrong when you combine the heaviness of A Day ago Remember, the live energy of All Time Low, and the nostalgia, stage experience, and naturalness (if that's even a word) of Blink 182.

Before the show even began, as I was walking through the parking lot and hanging out, the guys from All Time Low were zipping around the crowds in a golf cart, joking around with show-goers and getting people pumped up.  They didn't disappoint, and hugely surpassed my expectations on stage with the amount of energy they put into the performance.

A Day to Remember, who could have easily been headlining, brought to the stage a phenomenal stage production, a heavier sound with a fun vibe, confetti, blow up balloons, and all kinds of excitement as they rocked the crowd.  They were the kind of show that made me think "I want to be friends with those dudes."  With a mix of songs old and new, their set list was on point.  In all honesty, the show could have ended after their set and I would've been satisfied with an amazing rock show.

The big news for these guys in 2016, as some of you may have heard, was that they won a court battle against Victory Records that began approximately 5 years ago.  Seeking "freedom and resolution," they announced their legal victory on a website post 11/23/16. Going into 2017, they will be touring the UK and Europe through January and February, but will be back on US soil rocking a festival show down in Tampa.  And of course their new album, Bad Vibrations, is now available!

Blink 182 was what put this show in my Top 5.  Not Blink alone, not A Day to Rememeber alone, but the combination of basically two solid headliners.  As a kid who fell in love with Blink in the days of "Dude Ranch," there was such a sense of nostalgia in seeing them live.  Seeing Travis Barker so naturally destroy the drums, as if his drum sticks were his own appendages? Priceless.  Add Matt Skiba [Alkaline Trio] and his vocals, harmonies, and musical skill to the mix: even better.  These guys just got nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album- believe it or not their first Grammy Nom ever.
