25 Years Ago: Damn Yankees Release ‘Don’t Tread’

Damn Yankees released their second studio album 'Don't Tread' on Oct. 1, 1992.

Supergroup Damn Yankees which featured Tommy Shaw of Styx, Jack Blades of Night Ranger, Ted Nugent, and drummer Michael Cartellone (who would be the future drummer for Lynyrd Skynyrd) already had huge success with their self-titled debut album by the time Don't Tread was released. Damn Yankees went double platinum with singles "High Enough", "Come Again", and "Coming of Age", and their music was all over rock radio. The band had gone on an 18 month world tour and was playing with bands like Damn Yankees, Poison, and Jackyl. In 1992 the band would release their second and last album Don't Tread, and although it was not as successful as their debut, it would eventually go Gold feature a some minor hits like "Don't Tread on Me", "Mister Please", "The Silence is Broken", and the top 20 hit power ballad "Where You Going Now". A Damn Yankees reunion is something that I would love to see. I was a big Damn Yankees fan but unfortunately I never got to see them live. And although I love both of their albums, I actually prefer the Don't Tread album.
