The Mets took the first game from the Yankees, but the rest of the weekend belonged to the Bronx bombers.

It was a good weekend for the New York Yankees as they hosted the New York Mets in the MLB's first look at interleague play.  The Yanks dropped the first game to the Mets 2-1 on Friday night but they were able to bounce back on Saturday and Sunday to take the series and take part of the first place spot from Tampa Bay.

Today it looked like the Mets and Mike Pelfry were on their way to a series win with a 3-1 lead going into the 7th inning.  That is until the Yankee bats came to life and they scored 8 runs.  They would get the 9-3 win.

Alex Rodriguez had a particularly good day.  He was 4-5 from the plate with an RBI.  Brett Gardner was also productive on the offensive end.  He went 2-4 with 2 RBI's.  Ivan Nova worked just over 6 innings before leaving.  That's when the Yanks went to Luis Ayala who picked up the win after that big 7th inning.

So the Yankees sit at 25-20 in the AL East with the Rays right with them at 26-21. The Red Sox are still bringing up the rear in third at 24-21.  The Mets are still 6 games back in fourth place in the NL East with a 22-24 record.  They have some work to do if they plan on catching Philly, Florida or even Atlanta for that matter.  The Yankees and Mets play each other again the first weekend in July.
