You might have heard recently that Q103 is giving away tickets to Rock On The Range. What exactly is it and why would a radio station in Albany New York have so many tickets to a show in Ohio?

Rock On The Range is the biggest annual rock festival in America featuring the biggest hard Rock, alternative Rock and metal music of today.  It's held every year in Columbus Ohio at Crew Stadium with a 2nd smaller version of the festival in Canada.

The first Rock on the Range in America was held on one day in May of 2007. The sold-out festival featuring ZZ TOP ran all day, and due to a huge success, Rock on the Range was turned into an annual event getting bigger every year.

The second festival was a two-day event held on the weekend of May 17–18, 2008, highlighted by the very first Stone Temple Pilots performance in 7 years, ending the band's hiatus.

In 2009  the festival grew to have 2 stages and over 30 acts highlighted by Motley Crue, Alice In Chains, Slipknot and more.

In 2010 the festival grew to 3 stages highlighting the return of Limp Bizkit with close to 40 acts.

The 2011 festival has now grown to over 40 bands on three stages for 3 days, although not a big reunion type show this year, it does have some amazing bands performing such as A Perfect Circle, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed and Korn.  For the complete lineup check out the Rock On The Range website.

The festival usually draws around 30,000 fans each day onto the Columbus Crew Stadium grounds.  The typical ticket price is around $50 -$65 per day and is sold in with various packages such as camping or hotel rooms.

Some monumental experiences have taken place at Rock on the Range. Such as in 2009 where it was Avenged Sevenfold's last place they played together as a band in the United States before their drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan died. During their performance in 2010, the music video for Papa Roach's single Kick in the Teeth was filmed.

Rock On The Range has become one of the most anticipated music festivals of the year. Q103 has over the years developed an excellent relationship with the organizers that they reward the station with tickets to give away to its listeners and have the Capital Region represented at the show.

As the Program Director of Q103, there is no better ticket to giveaway than a ticket to a show like this.  Where else can you have almost 75 percent of the music we play on the station at one show? Yes it is a long drive, but I say take your buddies and make it a Rock n Road trip!

Listen to Q103 at 103.5& 103.9 to win tickets to the show as well as attend Smarter Than A Q-Tease trivia every Wednesday night in April at the City Sports Grille to win tickets.
