What is Generation X?

Rock Girl Tatiana and I try to define what Generation X is, and not just what year one has to be born in to be considered a Generation Xer.

As I support the 1961 - 1981 and 1965 - 1984 demographic, Tatiana reminds me the Generation X's influence goes beyond the demographic and that they're some people whose birthdate is not within the designated demographic who identify with Generation X more than their own generation, because Generation X is the greatest generation.
