Happy Birthday today (March 29) to Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell. He’s 58. Also celebrating is singer John Popper of Blues Traveler (50).

Perry Farrell is best known as the frontman for Jane’s Addiction and the founder of the Lollapalooza music festival. He was also frontman for the bands Porno for Pyros and Satellite Party. Jane’s Addiction formed in 1985 out of Los Angeles, California and the band currently consists if Farrell along with guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Chris Chaney. The band had success during the early 90’s alternative rock movement and released two albums on Warner Bros. Records, Nothing’s Shocking and Ritual de lo habitual. They also launched the very first Lollapalooza music festival.

Jane’s Addiction is considered by many to be one of the most influential rock of alternative music. Some bands that have been influenced by them include Tool, Korn, The Smashing Pumpkins, Limp Bizkit, Candlebox, P.O.D., Stabbing Westward, Incubus, and System of a Down, among others. Their last studio album was 2011's The Great Escape Artist. Cheers today to Perry Farrell on his birthday!
