Wednesday, April 20: Rock Birthdays

Happy Birthday today (April 20) to drummer Mike Portnoy. He’s 49. Portnoy is the former drummer/co-founder of Dream Theater and he currently performs with The Winery Dogs. Also celebrating is keyboardist Craig Frost (Bob Seger, Grand Funk Railroad) who turns 68.

Mike Portnoy is best known as the former drummer and co-founder of progressive metal band Dream Theater. Besides his work with Dream Theater, he has had several other side projects. He is the drummer for The Winery Dogs and is also the current drummer for Twisted Sister, having replaced AJ Pero who passed away in March of 2015. He is also known for playing in the band Adrenaline Mob and many others.

Mike Portnoy is well respected for his technical skill as a drummer and he has won 30 awards from Modern Drummer magazine. For more on Portnoy, check out his official website here.
