Last night was one of televisions most anticipated premieres with AMC's The Walking Dead.   The first season was so explosive that zombie lovers couldn't wait to see what was going to happen to Rick Grimes and company after last seasons finale and the premiere did not disappoint.  SPOILERS ahead.

If you were like me, then last night you were pumped up for the premiere of season 2 of The Walking Dead.   Last season blew everyone away and was far too short, so since the beginning of the year we have been wondering what happened after the events of the season 1 finale "TS-19".

At the end of that episode the crew was locked up at the CDC building with a scientist looking for a cure.  Little did they know that he was almost out of supplies and the generators were almost out of juice.  At that point the whole place would destroy itself as a protocol so that no terrible disease could escape (ironic).  So most of Grimes' crew tried to escape and get to their vehicles instead of meeting an untimely fate.  A few members of the group stayed behind feeling like pressing on was useless.

That is where we are at the beginning of season 2.  The group is shaken by the events that took place, but is back on the road.  They find themselves in quite a mess when they get to an area of the highway that is jammed up with dead cars, what they call a grave yard.  Their RV breaks down so they start to look through the cars for parts and supplies.  In the meantime, some walkers are moving toward them, and in large numbers.  Grimes spots them and gets everyone under the cars.  Unfortunately no one had time to warn Andrea who is in the RV attempting to clean her gun.  She is stuck inside when a walker wanders in.  She resolves the situation by jamming a screwdriver through the zombie's head.

The coast is almost clear when Sophia pops out from under the car a bit too soon and a walker is right there.  Rick is caught in a dilemma because if he fires his gun he will attract the whole pack back to them.  So Sophia takes off into the woods with two walkers hot on her tail.  Grimes takes off after her and manages to hide her and get them after him instead.  He tells her once the coast is clear to make her way back to the others on the highway.  He takes off and ends up killing both walkers.  The problem though, Sophia never makes it back and is no where to be found.

We are starting to see a split in the group and Rick's close friend Shane is starting to break because he can't handle seeing Rick and his wife back together after he took care of them for so long.  He decides that he is going to leave, and Andrea over hears and wants to go with him.  They all begin to search for Sophia, but she is no where to be found.  The group splits up and Rick takes his son Carl and Shane with him to continue searching for Sophia.   Rick goes into a church where he says some prayers and asks God for a sign that he is doing the right thing.

As he, Shane, and Carl make their way through the woods they see a buck.  You can tell by the look in their eyes that it is a sign of hope to see something so pure and beautiful after seeing so much death and destruction.  Carl starts to walk towards the deer and all seems fine, but it wouldn't be the Walking Dead if we had a happy ending.  Someone shoots the deer and the bullet goes through the animal and hits Carl, and that is where we see the episode end.

As always, it had me on the edge of my seat and sick to my stomach.  Obviously we are going to see a split in the group by the end of this season.  Who will go with who?  Is Rick's son going to die?  The writers of this show seem to have no problem killing off kids, so it could happen.  We'll have to wait and see next week.
