Vermont House Passes Bill to Legalize Recreational Marijuana
Vermont could be the first state to legalize recreational marijuana legislatively. Do you think New York should follow suit?
The House lawmakers in Vermont just voted 81-63 to pass a bill that would allow adults over the age of 21 to grow and possess small amounts of legal marijuana beginning in July. Of course the Senate still needs to approve the bill but if they do so that would make Vermont the 9th state in the country to legalize the sticky icky but the first to do it legislatively rather than by ballot. Which essentially means that law makers in the state are actually listening to their constituents and taking the lead on this one and by mid summer they could be treating marijuana more like alcohol.
I think it's pretty obvious that an overwhelming amount of Americans are pushing for the legalization of Marijuana and with the insane amount of cash that the 8 states that have already legalized it are making I have a hard time wrapping my head around why some government officials are fighting it so hard even just from purely financial stand point.
I feel that the Capital Region seems to have a pretty strong opinion for one reason or another on this topic but it seems like the majority are in favor of the legalization. Do you think it would be wise for New York to take a cue out of Vermont's playbook and start working towards legalization at a legislative level now? Let us know in the comments.
