The next era of Veil of Maya is almost upon us. The Chicago metallers split with vocalist Brandon Butler in the midst of working on their Matriarch album last year, but quickly moved to replace him with new frontman Lukas Magyar. Earlier this spring, the band released their first taste of new music in the form of tracks called "Phoenix" and "Mikasa" and now their ironing out the final album details and promotional support.

The Matriarch album will arrive on May 12 through Sumerian Records and it will feature 12 new tracks including the aforementioned "Mikasa." Check out the full track listing at the bottom of this post.

The band had started writing and were making good progress when they hit the Mayhem Festival circuit last summer, but not long after the final show, Butler revealed his exit. Magyar recalls, "I’m from this small town in Wisconsin, where there’s not a lot of music and nobody’s really as serious about it as I am. I had followed Veil for a few years, and was really impressed by them. When I heard they needed a new singer, I got in touch."

Guitarist Marc Okubo adds, "We flew him out, auditioned him and hired him on the spot. He was great. He could sing, too, which is something we’d wanted to do for a while. It really opened up some possibilities."

The release of "Mikasa" gave the band a chance to let the fans warm to Magyar. Okubo says, "There was controversy when we released the single, 'Mikasa.' But for every 10 kids who complained online, we gained hundreds of new fans. I think 'Mikasa' is the most popular song we’ve ever put out."

With Magyar now in place and the record on the horizon, Veil of Maya are hitting the road for a late spring headlining tour. Dates begin May 20 in Detroit, eight days after the release of the new disc. The run, which also includes support from Revocation, Gift Giver, Oceano and Entheos, concludes on June 12 in Edmonton. Dates can be found below the album track listing and ticketing info can be found here.
