Upstate New York Man Holds Family Hostage With 15 Cases of Beer
A Callicoon, NY man is under arrest after holding his family hostage for seven days with 15 cases of beer.
Benito Lopez is accused of imprisoning his girlfriend, son (11), and daughter (12) after he confiscated their phones, tablets, car keys, and disconnecting the house's land phone line.
During this time, Lopez drank his way through almost all of the 15 cases of beer and several bottles of liquor.
The family was able to escape after Lopez's girlfriend contacted a family member via Facebook while pretending to play online game.
Police would raid the home after originally being told that Lopez could be armed. They only found the empty bottles and cans upon entering.
Lopez, who originally was on probation for felony drunk driving, now faces additional charges of unlawful imprisonment (3 counts), endangering the welfare of a child (2 counts), probation violation.
