Last week we told you how the New York State Police and the Department of Environmental Conservation were searching for a New Jersey man who set out on what was supposed to be a 3 day hike near the Upper Works Trailhead on September 2nd and was reported over due to return home. Alex Stevens was last seen at the base of Wallface Mountain in the Newcomb area on that same day.

While everyone was hoping to find the young man alive and probably a little lost unfortunately that was not the case. The Daily Gazette is reporting that yesterday,

Stevens' body was found about noon near Wallface Mountain, which is within the High Peaks Wilderness. An autopsy will be completed Tuesday at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

This was definitely not the outcome anyone was hoping for but at least the family now has some closure and isn't left just wondering what happened to him. I'm not the most outdoorsy person but if you are heading out in the wilderness alone or even with a hiking buddy please let someone know your route and expected time back and please outfit yourself with some sort of gps system so that heaven forbid something goes wrong someone can find you in a timely manner.

Stay safe out there Capital Region.
