Happy Birthday today (May 9) to “Party Hard” rocker Andrew W.K. who turns 38. Also celebrating is bassist Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick (67) and Billy Joel (68).

Andrew W.K. was born in Stanford, California and grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He moved to New York City in 1998 to pursue is music career while holding down several jobs including stints as a bubblegum machine salesman, parking attendant, and a waiter. He moved to Florida and started a band in 1999. He eventually got a recording deal in 2000 with Island Records and released his debut album I Get Wet on Nov. 13, 2001. The album went to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers chart with the singles “Party Hard” and “She is Beautiful”.

I’ve caught his solo show a couple of times where he rocks the place with just his ipod and a keyboard. It’s always a rockin show! For more on Andrew W.K., check out his official website here.
