Happy Birthday today (May 16) to Krist Novoselic. The former Nirvana bassist is 52.

Krist Novoselic and Kurt Cobain formed Nirvana in 1987 out of Aberdeen, Washington.  drummer Dave Grohl would eventually join the fold and Nirvana would become one of the most influential rock bands of the Seattle grunge era. In 2014, Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Dave Grohl and Courtney Love accepting the honors. Nirvana found major success with the release of their second album Nevermind in 1991, and all the kids in junior high started wearing flannel. Nevermind sold over 30 million copies worldwide making it one of the best selling albums of all time. The album featured their most successful single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.

After Nirvana split up, Krist Novoselic formed alternative rock band Sweet 75 which lasted until 2000. He went on to play in the punk band Flipper from 2006-2009. He contributed bass to the song "I Should Have Known" on the Foo Fighters album Wasting Light in 2011. Cheers to this rockin bassist on his birthday today!
