It's about time we had a day dedicated to heavy metal! What better way to celebrate that than talking about some of the best in the business? I'll start off by counting down my favorite heavy metal vocalists of all time. There so many it's going to be tough so I'll just go with the cream of the the crop. The singers that I would love to see and hear for all time. It might be because of their voice, it also might be because of their showmanship, or possibly a little bit of both. Either way, we have had some fantastic heavy metal front men over the years. Here are my top 5.

    Howard Jones - Killswitch Engage

Howard Jones is one of my favorite heavy metal vocalists because he can do both aspects of metal so well. He can do the growl and also has one mean set of pipes. I'm really glad to see that Killswitch is back at it and going strong. One of the best metal bands out there right now.

    Bruce Dickinson - Iron Maiden

A man who's voice goes hand in hand with the creation of that quintessential heavy metal sound. I love Dickinson's voice, but his live performance is on a whole other level. Jumping back and fourth across the stage, running around, it's quite the show. Would love to get Maiden here in Albany!

    Sebastian Bach - Skid Row

Before I get crucified for putting him on here, just hear me out. Skid Row's 'Slave To The Grind' is one of the best heavy metal albums of all time. Bach's vocals on it are awesome. I think that people think Skid Row and only hear 'I Remember You' but these guys put out a couple badass metal records and without Bach's vocals, they wouldn't be what they were.

    Rob Halford - Judas Priest

How can you not love Halford's vocals? That scream, the leather, the motorcycle. Halford is metal and always will be. Many have tried to replicate that sound (Ripper, I'm looking at you). Now they may have sounded good, but there is only one Rob Halford.

Ronnie James Dio - Dio, Black Sabbath

God rest his soul. Ronnie James Dio had one of the greatest voices in heavy metal. Perhaps I'm being a bit bias since my favorite band ever is Black Sabbath, but he is for sure my favorite heavy metal vocalist. His lyrics are crazy, but for some reason singing of demons, dragons and rainbows in the dark worked. Until the day he died he sounded just as good as he always did. That's why Dio is my favorite heavy metal frontman.
