The Metal Box is a weekly web series posted each Friday where we discuss all things hard rock and heavy metal: news, videos, interviews, live concerts and more.

This week, we talk about Godsmack frontman Sully Erna announcing a Fall U.S. solo tour in support of his upcoming release Hometown Life including a stop in Albany at The Egg Nov. 22. Godsmack formed out of Lawrence, Massachusetts in 1995. The band, led by founder and frontman Sully Erna, has released six studio albums and one EP. They’ve had three consecutive number 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and many rock hits. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1998 and sold 4 million copies in the U.S. with singles ‘Whatever’, ‘Keep Away’, and ‘Voodoo’. The band has played major tours and festivals over the years including Ozzfest on more than one occasion, and they have headlined their own arena tours. The band's music has often been compared to Alice in Chains, a band that Godsmack has cited as a major influence. Godsmack’s last studio album 1000hp was released in 2014.
