Javier Colon, honestly, it almost wasn’t fair to have this guy compete against the others. First, because his voice is simply one of the smoothest voices you’ve ever heard. And second, this guy has already had a record deal. He was actually a member of The Derek Trucks Band between 2000-2002 before leaving to start a solo career where he released 2 cd’s on Capitol Records. I can’t say that I really know the back story of any of the other contestants, but I don’t think any of them have had any of the chances that he’s had. I mean seriously, he walked away from an incredibly talented and pretty successful band with Derek Trucks to try and go at it himself. He already had the ‘golden egg’, and then dropped it. How many chances do you get? Now knowing all this, I would have preferred that someone who hasn’t had all the opportunity get the chance. Did he deserve to win? Yes. But what is fair for someone like him to even be on the show? I’m not sure. I think it would have been better to not let someone that’s already had a ‘record deal’ on the show. I want to see someone that hasn’t had all the breaks get the chance next time. (I think part of me is jealous because I can’t believe Javier played with Derek Trucks and left. I would have killed to play with that cat. I mean, how do you go up to one of the best slide guitar players ever and say... "I'm going to go do my own thing"?) Oh well, I don’t make the rules of The Voice. I’m just a watcher. And that’s what I’ll probably do tonight. Javier does seem like nice enough guy. And I hear he’s a damn good golfer too. Here’s the original song he performed to win The Voice. It’s called ‘Stitch by Stitch’ and was written by Dave Bassett, David Hodges and Lindy Robbins, and produced by Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins. This song is a winner for sure. If you watch/listen to this song, you'll realize that he had one more advantage as this tune is clearly written better and catchier than any of the songs written for the other 3 finalists. Yes, I had to throw one more dig in there. I do wish him the best of though!
