Saturday May 26th, The Great Escape and Splash Water Kingdom in Lake George officially opens for the 2012 Summer season.  New this year is a water ride area called the Alpine Free Falls Water Complex, featuring a six story Cliffhanger attraction. Check out the video

Located next to the Comet Rollercoaster is the new Alpine Free Falls Water Complex.  Swimsuit wearing riders will climb a top a 'Skybox' .  Once their hands are clasped to the backs of their heads, the “floor” of the enclosed capsule will drop away and riders will slide at high speed down an 80-degree, 200 foot long U-shaped slide.

Brad Goodbody, Marketing Director for ProSlide Technology Inc. of Ottawa, who built the ride describes it.
"Riders will free fall for maybe the first 10 or 15 feet, but the weight of the actual slide is engineered and the angle that starts to curve down into the run is such that although you may feel like you’re kind of floating, you are always kind of bound into it."

Riders will drop into the slide, reach speeds close to 25 miles an hour and end 200 feet later in approximately seven seconds!

The Great Escape also is planning to add the Twister Racer water slide as well. The side by side slides will take you through enclosed tunnels that twist and turn, then it opens up into a drag race finish.  That ride will open on June 9th.

The Great Escape Six Flags Amusement park is located in Lake George New York off Exit 20 of I-87.
