NFL draft prospect Tharold Simon of LSU was already famous in his hometown of Eunice, La.; now he’s also infamous. Simon, 22, was arrested in his hometown on Thursday night, one day before Eunice officials were to proclaim “Tharold Simon Day” in the city. Simon was arrested and charged with obstruction of public passage(s), unnecessary noise, resisting an officer and public intimidation after police pulled him over on a traffic stop. The former LSU cornerback was perhaps starting “his” day a little early. The police officers didn’t get the memo.

“He was saying, ‘I own this town and I’m going to get your job, I’m going to get you fired’,” said Ronald Dies of the Eunice Police Dept.

“When the officers went to put the handcuffs on him, he told them that they couldn’t cuff him. He didn’t want to get cuffed and he pulled away from the officers. But that’s when he added the resisting arrest charge.”

Simon was released on bail. Eunice Mayor Claud “Rusty” Moody told EuniceToday.com that the NFL Draft party and ceremony to fete Simon were canceled, but he told TV station KATC that “the ceremony will go on as planned.”

You just know that Mel Kiper Jr. is all over this. He’s probably already suggesting that NFL teams draft Simon and convert him to wide receiver. “You have to double- and triple-team this guy. Even the police couldn’t contain him.” Of course, what NFL team can’t use a lockdown corner?
