Newly minted MLB Home Run Derby champion Juan Soto put on a show Monday night in Los Angelas. The 23 year-old Nationals outfielder is fresh off of declining a 15-year/$440 million offer from Washington to stay put in the nation's capital. Only a few teams in Major League Baseball seem willing to stomach contract numbers like that and two of them reside in the Big Apple.

New York Mets first-baseman Pete Alonso is never afraid to get his uniform dirty. In the fourth inning, the burly Home Run Derby champion tried to score from first on a double to the wall by new teammate Eduardo Escobar. Fleet of foot, Alonso is not. He was gunned down by Washington shortstop Alcides Escobar on a perfect throw to the plate. But that wasn't the worst of it in Game 1 of 2022 for the Polar Bear, as he is nicknamed.

According to reports by ESPN Saturday night "the game between the Padres and the Nationals was suspended in the sixth inning Saturday night after a shooting outside Nationals Park that caused echoes of gunfire inside the stadium and prompted fans to scramble for safety in the dugout." Fans had to hide in the dugouts. People who are supposed to be having fun are terrified and thankfully the gun violence was intended to injure the fans.

Dr. Fauci used to be a New York Yankees fan, now he's a Washington Nationals fan. He'll throw out the first pitch when they play each other to kick off the 2020 MLB season Thursday night.

Matt Williams, the manager of the Washington Nationals, does a weekly radio spot on a Washington, D.C., radio station. The other day, he was asked about outfielder Bryce Harper, who has been struggling as of late. A hypothetical question was posed that Harper be sent down to the Nationals' AAA affiliate, Syracuse, for a few games to see if he can get back on track. Williams answered the question,

President Obama will not be throwing out the first pitch today at the Washington Nationals game to start the Major League Baseball Season. Why? He is not very good at it.
