Our third annual Pizza Wars stormed the Albany area once again and while many great pizza was had, there was just one winner at each location. Thanks to everyone who came out - hope you has as much fun as we did.
Once again I headed to Youtube.com for inspiration. This time I found the local band Kingdom of Blood.
Our very own Schenectady County Community College is best known for their culinary and hotel/restaurant management and hospitality degrees, but now they are planning on adding another program to the curriculum that will make them take off even more- game managing, and it might become available as soon as this fall. Maybe that's why they built all those dorms to house local students?
We all remember last year when hunky actors Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling arrived in Schenectady for a semi brief stint of filming for "The Place Beyond The Pines," about about a professional motorcycle racer (Gosling), who robs banks in order to support his son, while Cooper, the good cop, tries to catch him. A television ad that was filmed at General Electric in Schenectady and at Wolf's 1-11 in Colonie will appear during the first half of Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. The commercial also stars local GE employees. Watch it now.
With all the Hollywood names roaming around the Electric City lately, including a visit yesterday by former Sopranos star Vincent Pastore (a.k.a. Big Pussy) to shoot scenes for a low-budget flick, it got me wondering what other films have used Schenectady as a backdrop. You know you were wondering the same thing.
As the snow melts in the Spring of 2012 at the Schenectady High School football field, a referee's whistle blows - fans cheer as a 60 yard pass is thrown to a wide open receiver for a touchdown. Look closely to see these are not high school boys practicing, but women playing competitive tackle football on a team named The Northeastern Nitro. If you want to play on this team, tryouts start October 29th.
