Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith is a man who respects the craft of music and embraces its many forms, so it's no surprise that he'd be willing to speak out on behalf of music education in Washington, D.C. Smith did just that earlier this week, speaking to members of Congress about music funding in public schools.
After months of anticipation and many fictitious rumors, the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival has revealed its official 2013 lineup. The diverse group of performers run the creative gamut from rock to indie to electronica and more, all while mixing the best of new artists on the rise with veteran artists in their prime.
The numbers are in for the highest grossing touring acts of 2012, and there are a few surprises peppered into the list. What isn't surprising, however, is that Metallica were the biggest draw of any hard rock act in 2012, followed closely by bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nickelback.
There's no doubt that Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea is definitely an avid basketball fan, and that his loyalties lie with his Los Angeles home teams. On Friday night, he won over numerous UCLA fans while donning a homemade t-shirt in support of suspended basketball star Shabazz Muhammad as he performed the national anthem.
Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer would be considered "the new guy" in the band, but he still got to experience a milestone with the group earlier this year when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For the guitarist though, he's not sure what it all means at this point.
In keeping with the theme of their recent induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to release an EP that will feature a collection of cover songs honoring previous Hall of Fame inductees. The song selections were based on artists who have influenced the Chili Peppers throughout their career and run the gamut of styles from the Ramones to the Beach Boys.
