Iced Earth will not be touring this summer as guitarist Jon Shaffer required surgery sooner than expected.

More than three weeks ahead of its Jan. 21 North American release date, Iced Earth's album 'Plagues of Babylon' is available for streaming via Spotify (listen below). It's the follow-up to 2011's 'Dystopia.'

Back in April, power metal veterans Iced Earth revealed the title of their next studio album would be 'Plagues of Babylon.' Now, it is confirmed that it will be released Jan. 21 via Century Media Records. The band will also be touring with Sabaton and Revamp in support of the album beginning in April of next year (dates below).

Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer has a distinct and very metal look. When a fan pictures Schaffer, they see a black shirt or tank top, a denim or leather vest, a bandana and an angry metal face. In a hilarious doppleganger moment, Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen joined Iced Earth onstage dressed exactly like Schaffer as the band played their classic namesake track, ‘Iced Earth.’

There are a few European imports that we here at Q103 really enjoy, and Danish punk/metal/rock-a-billy band Volbeat is one of them.  The are coming back to Albany June 23rd.

I recently got a chance to chat with Iced Earth guitarist and founding member Jon Schaffer and he gave me some incite into the bands future plans and also told me exactly what it takes to maintain the heavy metal lifestyle.
