With a win at Belmont Park on Saturday, I’ll Have Another would have become the 12th horse to capture horse racing’s Triple Crown by virtue of consecutive victories in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes. Unfortunately, the horse has been scratched with a leg injury.
So, besides famously becoming the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win all three races, what would’ve I’ll Have Another gotten for winning the Triple Crown?
Triple Crown contender I’ll Have Another and 11 other horses will run at the 144th Belmont Stakes on Saturday. While I’ll Have Another races to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown, the other horses will attempt to spoil his coronation and win their share of the $1 million purse.

Affirmed was the last horse to sweep the Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and The Belmont in 1978. With the 2nd race of the Triple Crown run on Saturday, Shackleford wins The Preakness by less than 3/4 of a length and spoils the Triple Crown attempt by Derby winner Animal Kingdom.
