Albany's Knickerbocker Film Festival is set to kick off in April, which raises excitement and questions. Like “what the hell is a Knickerbocker”?

It seems like the Capital Region is becoming Hollywood east as many studios are picking the area to shoot scenes for movies.  Last summer 'The Place Beyond the Pines' starring Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling spent weeks in Schenectady.  On February 4th, a boxing film called 'The Challenger' will be shooting scenes after a boxing event at the Times Union Center.  Want to be an extra or a ring girl?

Before shooting for the Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper movie The Place Beyond the Pines even begins, a second film has already been scheduled to be shot in the Electric City, starting in the fall.

I've blogged previously about the movie The Place Beyond the Pines being partly filmed in Schenectady. This is an update on that story, as the film crew moved in yesterday to being shooting, which will take place in some of the local banks, a few Schenectady homes and in sections of the Woodlawn Preserve and Albany Pine Bush Reserve. The sequel to the ever-so-popular film The Hangover has barely been out for a week and already the idea of Hangover 3 is in the works. The first week of The Hangover: Part II grossed a whopping $200 million, and the success of the film so far has put the idea of a third film into Warner Bros. heads.

I don't think anyone is surprised that this is my movie pick this week.  I have been looking forward to seeing "Thor" for a while, and it is finally here.

I think I am in the majority when I say that the first Transformers movie was okay and the second one was pretty awful, but now Steven Spielberg has stepped in to put that special touch to the third one.
