Pearl Jam's documentary 'Twenty' directed by Cameron Crowe will premiere nationwide on PBS October 21st at 8pm as part of the PBS Arts Festival. In an excerpt from Twenty, Chris Cornell explains how the camaraderie and competition between Pearl Jam and his band, Soundgarden, in the 90s that led to Temple of the Dog. The mellow tune is way different than the sound that can be expected on the upcoming Soundgarden album, which is reportedly very heavy.
With his third solo album, 2009′s ‘Scream,’ Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell surprised and frustrated longtime fans by abandoning heavy guitars and exploring more pop- and hip-hop-flavored textures.
So what should the Soundgarden faithful expect from the recently reunited band, which is working on its first studio album since 1996? According to Cornell, something unlike its back catalog, but not necessarily a drastic departure, either.
I can’t believe it took until July 10th 2011 for me to see Soundgarden. It was great seeing them at a venue back in New England (Comcast Ctr. Mansfield, Ma.) that I’ve seen many greats at. So was it worth the wait? Yes. They rocked. There was not a lot of talking, and no crazy light shows… They just rocked!

They don’t have a release date, a title, or even a record company waiting to get it onto the shelves, but Soundgarden is in the studio working on its first new album in 15 years – and during a pair of recent interviews, frontman Chris Cornell and guitarist Kim Thayil hinted at what fans can expect to hear.
“We’re kind of doing it in stages,” says Thayil, adding, “We have about 14 songs in various stages of completion. Previously, we’d just block out a bunch of time and go and track everything at once, but we can’t really do that right now.”
I guess the big question is… how much do you love Pearl Jam or Eddie Vedder? Knowing in advance that this effort from Eddie will certainly be little outside the box, is it something that you’re dying to have?
