Heavy metal is a beast that just won't die, and thank god for that. While the big names of the past are still going strong there are quite a few current metal bands out there that are ripping it up too. The sound gives an old school feel, especially when they tear into a kick ass solo, or dual solo! So lets look at some of the best current heavy metal bands.

Mike Portnoy. Man, this guy has played with a lot of people. And they are all really, really great. Most know him from Dream Theater and filling in with Avenged Sevenfold.

The Rockstar Energy Drink Uproar Festival featuring headliners Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace, Seether, Bullet For My Valentine, and Escape The Fate have announced tour dates for 2011.  The festival will run August 26th-October 15th.  See the dates:

40 bands in 3 days!  Its called "Rock On The Range" America's Rock Festival and featured a who's who in the rock world.  There were many great performances.  Alter Bridge, Hollywood undead, and Escape the Fate rocked Columbus Ohio but fell short to these five bands of top performers for the weekend.

Saturday night, three awesome bands rocked the stage at Albany's Times Union Center. Sevendust, Three Days Grace and Avenged Sevenfold all performed and put on an amazing show individually and as a whole.

Q103 presents the Welcome To The Family Tour with Avenged Sevenfold, Three Days Grace & Sevendust to Times Union Center this Saturday night.  Tickets having been selling like hot cakes, so more have been released for purchase.

Avenged Sevenfold won several awards at the Revolver Golden Gods in Los Angeles including Best Vocalist, Best Guitarist, Best Drummer and Best Album.
