Coldplay singer Chris Martin joined forces with R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe for a special performance of 'Losing My Religion' during the 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief at Madison Square Garden. According to NBC anchor Brian Williams, who appeared onscreen soon after to solicit donations, the team-up was a surprise even to those involved with the planning, and Martin himself seemed humbled to share the stage with one of his heroes.

Zakk Wylde Recording Hurricane Sandy Benefit Song With Members of Sevendust + Candlebox

Several members of the hard rock community are mobilizing to help those in need by recording a benefit track to raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The collective, which consists of Black Label Society's Zakk Wylde and JD Deservio, Sevendust's Morgan Rose, Candlebox's Kevin Martin and New York outfit the Infinite Staircase, will record the as-yet-untitled song with plans to release it as an iTunes exclusive on Jan. 8.

Paul McCartney will stand in for the late Kurt Cobain and front a Nirvana reunion at tonight's 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy Benefit at New York's Madison Square Garden, according to rumors sweeping the Internet. The story stems from Britain's Sun newspaper, which reports that Dave Grohl asked the Beatles legend to "jam with some mates," and that those additional musicians wound up being Nirvana bassist Krist Novaselic and guitarist Pat Smear, who sometimes performed with the Seattle trio.
