Stone Temple Pilots Gear Up for ‘Core 20′ Tour + Rock Allegiance Festival
Stone Temple Pilots are set to perform ‘Core,’ their debut album, in its entirety on an upcoming tour in observance of its 20th anniversary. The band has announced the first couple of dates of their late summer trek, one of which will be their headlining spot at the Rock Allegiance festival.
As many bands from the grunge era have recently done, Stone Temple Pilots will honor their 20th birthday by diving into nostalgia head first. The band has chosen to tour behind and re-release their debut album ‘Core,’ despite not having played some of it’s tracks live in years. Scott Weiland recently revealed the he’s excited to dust off the back-catalog, ‘Where the River Goes’ in particular. “We haven’t played that song in a long time,” Weiland told Rolling Stone. “So I’m looking forward to that.”
Ahead of the full tour announcement, STP were announced as the headliners of the Rock Allegiance festival. Rock Allegiance debuted as a traveling festival last year, but this year it will be a one day blow-out in Hershey, Pa. The Sept. 1 shindig will also feature performances from Three Days Grace, Seether, Buckcherry, Fuel, Puddle of Mudd, Redlight King, Black Stone Cherry, Foxy Shazam and Otherwise, as well as more bands to be announced later.
In addition, Stone Temple Pilots also just announced the first date of their ‘Core 20′ tour, which is set for Aug. 27 at The Paramount in Huntington, N.Y.
STP also plan to release a live DVD that was recorded in 2009, just before the release of their self-titled album. ‘Alive in the Windy City‘ was initially planned for a Blu-ray and DVD release on June 5, but is now slated for June 26.
