Star Wars 40th Anniversery
40 years ago today, the world was introduced to a story that took place, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....
The original Star Wars premiered 40 years ago today and it was expected to bomb. Universal Studios turned down the original treatment submitted by George Lucas and the guy who played Obi-Wan said that the movie was "Fairy-tale rubbish."
They were very, very wrong because that movie was not a moon, it's a space station.
I don't feel that I need to go over the numbers in regards to the success of Star Wars or remind you of how much of an impact on our culture it has had. In fact the impact Star Wars has had is so huge that you have to move to a tribal community to get away from it.
I don't feel that I need to remind you of the success of Star Wars because it is our personal experiences that makes Star Wars so special. I remember cheering with my brother and sister when I was a kid when it would come on TV, I remember the Christmas when my Aunt and Uncle gave the three of us the original trilogy and how thrilled we were that all we had to do was pop those VHS tapes into the VCR if we wanted to watch them and we did, over and over again.
Star Wars is a major part of a lot of people's childhoods and in some cases their family memories.
There are some Star Wars haters out there and they can all just kiss the Wookie.
As for the rest of us, if you get the chance today, tomorrow or over the weekend watch Star Wars: A New Hope because it's the 40th Anniversary and remember, Han shot first and may the force be with you.
