As more and more anthropomorphic video game animals are heading to Hollywood, Sonic the Hedgehog has decided to throw a gold ring into the mix.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sonic the Hedgehog is going to be the next gaming franchise getting the AAA treatment to go to the silver screen. Surprising enough, it's going to be Sony Pictures that is going to be bringing the spiky, sneaker-wearing hedgehog to Hollywood. Sony producer Neal Moritz, who is executive producer on 'Fast & Furious 7,' is working on bringing the franchise to theaters and the project is being scripted by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux, known for their work on the Comedy Central series 'Upright Citizens Brigade.'

Sony Pictures will be working with the Japan-based studio, Marza Animation Planet, to bring the movie to life. Marza is a subsidiary of Sega, and is mainly known for doing the opening, CGI cutscenes for most of the underwhelming, 3D Sonic titles of the past decade, such as the abysmal 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog reboot. In terms of animated films, two of Sony's most noteworthy projects include the past two 'Smurfs' titles.

For the sake of seeing what Sonic could be like in a live-action film, here is the stellar fan project, 'Sonic,' by Eddie Lebron of Blue Core Studios.
